Your Guide to Common Questions
What are TEFL and TESOL? Are they the same thing?
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Both refer to teaching English to people whose first language is not English. The main difference is how they’re used:
TEFL is usually used when teaching English in countries where English is not the main language (e.g., teaching in Japan, Vietnam, or Thailand).
TESOL is a broader term that can include teaching both in English-speaking countries (like the U.S. or Canada) and abroad.
Example:
If you teach English in Korea, you’re doing TEFL.
If you teach immigrants in Canada, you’re doing TESOL.
I’m not a teacher — can I still join the TEFL/TESOL training?
Yes, you can! You don’t need to be a teacher or have teaching experience to join the TEFL/TESOL training. The course is designed for both beginners and experienced professionals. It will guide you step-by-step through the basics of English teaching, classroom techniques, and lesson planning—everything you need to start teaching English online or abroad.
What are OET and IELTS? Are they the same thing?
OET stands for Occupational English Test and IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System.
Both are English proficiency tests used for work, study, or migration—but they are not the same.
OET is for healthcare professionals like nurses, doctors, and dentists. The test uses medical topics and situations (e.g., writing a referral letter for a patient).
IELTS is for general or academic purposes, such as studying abroad, working, or migrating. It includes topics for everyday life and study.
Example:
If you’re a nurse applying to work in the UK, you take OET.
If you’re a student going to university in Australia, you take IELTS.
Are the training programs flexible for working professionals?
The TEFL/TESOL training can be taken fully online and self-paced, allowing you to study anytime and anywhere at your own convenience.
For the trainer-led program, schedules are flexible and can be arranged based on your availability, as most sessions are conducted one-to-one with a qualified trainer.
Similarly, the OET and IELTS preparation courses are offered one-to-one with personalized coaching and flexible schedules that adapt to each trainee’s needs. Coaching sessions and feedback are managed through an easy booking system, so you can plan your lessons at a time that suits you best.
